It played “Smile” by Uncle Kracker, then on the same station, right after “Smile” it played “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars. After that song, I flipped the radio two stations to find “Our Song” by Taylor Swift playing. It was unbelievably awesome. :D
“I wrote this song about a couple who lived next door to us. They’d been married forever and they came over one night for dinner, and were just so cute. They were talking about how they fell in love and got married, and how they met when they were just little kids. I thought it was so sweet, because you can go to the grocery store and read the tabloids, and see who’s breaking up and cheating on each other (or just listen to some of my songs, haha). But it was really comforting to know that all I had to do was go home and look next door to see a perfect example of forever.”—Taylor Swift, about “Mary’s Song (Oh My My My)”
CMT OFFSTAGE: Taylor Swift Will Have to Write a Long Song About Jake Gyllenhaal
January 21, 2011 | Alison Bonaguro
(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)
If any of these recently-reported Swiftenhaal sightings mean anything, it’s that the song Taylor Swift eventually and inevitably will write about Gyllenhaal will be a very long one. Because unlike Swift’s other romances that have seemed to come and go in a flash (Drew, Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Cory Monteith, Taylor Lautner), this one with actor Jake Gyllenhaal could be more of the long-term, on-again-off-again variety. The two were spotted together Wednesday night (Jan. 19) in Nashville having dinner at the Bound’ry.People magazine is reporting that a patron said, “They were cordial to one another, but not affectionate.” So if I had to speculate, since Gyllenhaal was in Nashville, it could mean that he was coming to Swift’s home turf to say he was sorry for breaking things off in December and that he wants to win her back. And maybe he wanted to do so before she left for her Asia in February to get her international Speak Now tour up and running. We will never know what the two of them talked about on Wednesday. Small talk? Work and the weather? But I have a feeling Gyllenhaal wishes he could go back to December.
In December, Allure of the Seas went to sea as the biggest ship in the world by just two inches. People from all over the world gathered on this ship to have an experience of a life time. The boat is so large that it has two large rock climbing walls, two flow riders, mini golf, a carousel, and a zip line, And various clubs scattered among the ship. During the eight nights and seven days that you are on board, you could never fully do everything that you wanted too. That statement is even more true for the thousands of people who boarded the ship on January 16th,2011. Most who boarded were quite aware that a four time grammy winner would be boarding the ship on January 21st to perform in the aqua theatre on deck six of this seventeen deck ship. All week people were worried about if they would win tickets or not, and what would happen if they didn’t. On day four of the cruise, the day After visiting Labadee, Haiti, was the day that you had a chance to win Taylor Swift tickets if you were interested in seeing her live. The boat spent they day making its way towards Costa Maya, Mexico, and all over the boat people were playing Taylor Swift trivia, taking part in the Taylor Swift look a like contest, the lip synching contest, computerized trivia, name that song contest, playing bingo, general trivia, and taking part in various sports competitions. Also, people were hoping to win by a stateroom raffle that happened every morning, bidding on the make a wish action, or the Taylor Swift amazing race competition. Some people already had won tickets by radio competitions, and some people were just lucky enough to somehow manage to be given a ticket. On the day of the show, Day six, Allure of the Seas arrived in Cozumel, Mexico. At 12 o’clock, the boardwalk closed, and a line started to form. People sat in line making signs out of pizza boxes and paper, listened to Taylor’s music, and were waiting impatiently to see Taylor Swift herself. At 3:30, the line stood up and got anxious. Crew gathered at the door ready to give out Taylor Swift glow sticks, and one guy came to the front of the line to hand out Taylor Swift cards to a few of the people who stood out there for four hours. Finally, it was four o’clock and they let’s the crowd in telling them not to run. No one listened though, seeing it was general admission depending on your color wristband. Gold was the best, followed by silver, aqua, red, purple, and blue. They also had yellow for those teens and kids who were unable to win a ticket. They sat in the balcony by the rock climbing walls above the theater. Camera crews walked around everywhere, and the host from the show “the insider” was there getting an exclusive look at the performance. The Aqua theatre filled up in no time, and at 4:50, music started playing. The band came out and took their places. The next thing that you see is a curly blonde walking back stage behind some boxes that covered her completely. The crowd screams, and you suddenly hear “drop everything now.” Taylor Swift walked out in a sparkly silver dress and cow boy boots, walked to the mic, and continues to sing “Sparks fly”. The crowd, the band, and Taylor are all filled with energy, and Taylor looked really excited. The song ended, and she introduced herself. She said how she saw some faces that she saw many times before, and then she saw a lot of new faces. She finished her speech, and began singing her first single off of her new album, “Mine.” You could hear the crowd singing along, people going crazy, and everyone was having a blast. She sang “The Story of Us” next, and then it was time for the saddest speech that I personally have ever come out of Taylor’s mouth. She said that she wrote about burning ex boyfriends pictures and boys breaking her heart, but one morning, she woke up and realized she had hurt someone. The next song was her saying sorry to him. “Back to December” was played on the black baby grand piano that the ship had let her use, and she was flawless. At the end of the song, she switched into “Apologize” by One Republic. It was an incredible, unforgettable performance. She went from sad to feeling full of revenge because the next thing that you heard was an up beat tempo and “Now go Stand in the corner and think about what you did.” The big fans in the crowd went insane, and Taylor looked excited to finally sing the song live. “Better than Revenge” was definitely one of the best she sang that late afternoon. She then introduced the song that the album was named after and sang through “Speak Now.” Next a stool was brought out, Taylor sat down and a ukulele was brought to Taylor. She explained that she loved her ukulele and introduced “fearless.” It was so amazing, and when she went into Jason Maraz’s “I’m yours” the crowd went insane. She absolutely knew how to win over this crowd. She stayed sitting on the stool and introduced the song everyone would know, “fifteen.” She played the guitar that time, and after she asked if we’d all sing along with her on the next song, and you could probably guess which one that was. She sang “You belong with Me” and decided to visit some people in the audience without approval from security. She hugged everyone on the right side and talked from the top in the middle of the audience somewhere. She returned to the stage to sing “Long Live,” and in the middle of the song she stopped to introduce Mike, Caitlin, Paul, Grant, Liz, al, and David, who was the newest member of the band. Taylor mentioned that the aqua theatre was his first show ever with the Band and herself. She finished the song, and then asked if she could sing one more. Of course the audience screamed, and “Love Story” was the final song of the night. Taylor and her Band left the stage leaving the crowd speechless. The show was the topic everyone talked about on Friday night, and it will be something most guests on the boat will never forget. Many times that night people talked about how they weren’t fans before, but how they thought she was growing up, and remaining so pure, and they loved that. So well done Taylor, you were incredible.
