OH MY GOSH, I FORGOT TO TELL YOU GUYS.
I’m going to be going to my first horse show at the end of the month. Like, riding in one. If everything goes right.
EEEEEEEE!
I’m so nervous and excited. My friend, Alyssa, has been riding Jay over jumps and she’s done so well with fixing the way he jumps and making me more confident over jumps. So, we’re gonna do a little baby jumper course.
I’m worried about two things. First, my nerves affecting Jay. Jay gets really excited and loves going new places. As long as I’m relaxed, I have no problems controlling him, he’s just on his tippy toes the entire time. So, I’m really afraid that my nerves are going to affect him, and make him be a little harder to handle. Even though, I’ve been super nervous going over jumps at home and he doesn’t do a damn thing.
The second thing I’m worried about is that he may get so excited about being at a new place, that he might jump way big and accidentally throw me. We’ve already decided to lunge him, because of his excitement and just to get him relaxed, waste a bit of his excitement and settle him down.
Alyssa has great advice for dealing with nerves though - don’t think about it, just do it. However, I’m getting nervous just thinking about it! >_< I’m just going to be listening to Taylor Swift the whole way down because that’ll keep me calm. I’m sure Alyssa will have some ideas on how to keep my nerves down or tell me to just keep my attention fully focused on my horse or pretend I’m at home. She’s been in the ring quite a few times with horses that weren’t even hers and her own mare.
So, we’ll address issues tonight and work through them. It’ll be okay.
